Pistachio! Rescue Ranger Art!

Here are the few pieces of Rescue Ranger art that I've ever done. In most cases, I haven't really drawn anything. I'm more of a computer person, usually modifying or combining pictures rather than starting from scratch. I hope you like what you see, though.

Santa Gadget
Santa Gadget

In mid-November of 2006, I decided it was time to start thinking about what I was going to do about creating a Christmas themed avatar that I could use at The Acorn Cafe. That's when I realized that Gadget's infamous red dress would make a pretty good santa dress with a few modifications. After a quick concept "sketch", I decided I liked the idea, and I also decided that if I was going to do it, I might as well work on it at full size, rather than just avatar size as I usually do, so that I could have an actual piece of art when I was done. That meant that it turned out to be a larger undertaking than I had planned on, but I think the result was worth it.

At first I wanted to try creating my own background, but that turned out to be much too difficult for me to pull off with my lack of artistic skill. So instead, I pulled backgrounds from "Pluto's Christmas Tree" and one of the RR episodes, which I think turned out nicely. It took about as long to put the background together the way I wanted it as it did to work on Gadget, so it was a signifigant portion of the picture. Gadget herself had her fur lightened and hair darkened to make her look more normal. I also trimmed away most of the eyeshadow so it wasn't so overpowering, and ended up redrawing nearly all of her lines to try and get rid of the "cut out" look and make her blend into the new scene. Finally, I redrew her mouth, erasing the pouty lips and replacing them with a more natural Gadget smile.

2007-03-06 Update
Well, thanks to the unfortunate timing of the release of this picture, just before 2006 ended, this hack job was still fresh enough in people's minds that it got nominated for, and won, a Golden Acorn award for Best Costuming. Fortunately, it turns out that it was actually a three way tie between myself, Chris Fischer, and another Rangerphile artist named Rye, so I don't have to feel totally bad about taking an award away from a real artist, since two of them also won the same award.

I do realize that it's an honor to have been given such an award, and I am grateful. Seriously. It's just that I don't feel worthy, since it's more of a photomanipulation, rather than actual new artwork. Without the hard work of talented REAL artists, like Fish, Rye, and especially the original animators who drew the series, I wouldn't have any material to work with, since I can't actually draw anything of my own. But still, thank you to everyone who voted for me. I do appreciate it. Just please, don't do it again. Save such accolades for those more deserving.

Mudflap Gadget
Mudflap Gadget

This was originally meant as a joke in the "You know you're a redneck Ranger" thread on the Acorn Cafe, but it turned out so well that I decided to finish it and post it here. It's based on the "Mudflap Girl" you see so often on the mudflaps of trucks, but has obviously been cleaned up quite a bit.

Gadgart.
Gadgart.

This was basically just a random picture I threw together after playing with colors, layers, and shapes. I ended up with a hole in the middle, and liked the colors, so I put a picture of Gadget in the middle, and presto! Random Gadget art!

Something Red.
Something Red.

Chip finally gets Gadget to agree to go on a date with him and casually suggests she wear something red, having a certain dress in mind. Unfortunately for him, Gadget's wise to his idea, and as he comes around a corner he finds that things didn't turn out exactly the way he had planned.

"Well, Chip? You did say to wear something red."

A combination of two official Disney RR poses. I colored Chip and Gadget and then created the background. I got the idea for this one after Winston scanned some pictures that had come in a rare RR press kit he'd won off of Ebay. I don't think anyone had ever seen that pose of Gadget before, and after noticing that all the scans were perfect for coloring, I had to try it out. Then I got the idea of changing the colors, and this scene was the result.

Gadglei

This picture was inspired by one of Julie Bihn's, in which she took Gadget and dressed her up in Yolei's clothing. So, I decided I had to do one of my own. Sure, I didn't actually draw mine, like she did. I just combined two screen grabs. But I like the way it turned out. The main picture is in the middle, with the two pictures I used to make it on either side.

1999-02

Gadget

This is the very first drawing I ever did of Gadget, which I drew it the last week of February in 1999 while trying to stay awake in my geography class. For referrence I used the picture that I'd put on the cover of my binder as a guide, and tried to copy it as best I could. I believe the original drawing is named Hawaii 07 in the Gadget Archive, but I can't remember. I'm sorry for how rough it is, but I only spent about a half hour to fortyfive minutes on it, so the results aren't that great, and I really haven't gone back yet to clean it up. I may put up a finished version someday. One thing I noticed about it though, is that I drew Gadget to look more Human than she does in the original picture.

Chip and Gadget have gone on dates since 2003-11-25.
